The Power of Lullabies – ExchangeEveryDay

“According to studies by Dr. Jeffrey Perlman, whenever a premature baby hears a lullaby, its heart rate slows and breathing steadies. That can help the baby sleep easier, gain weight faster, and leave the hospital sooner. But lullabies can help healthy babies, too. A 2013 study published in the journal Psychology of Music showed that singing a lullaby could reduce the level of pain a child feels. That’s because lullabies, like most pieces of pleasant music, activate the brain’s limbic system, releasing pain-killing endorphins.”
